Program Overview
In collaboration with LIBERTY Dental and Sacramento City College's Dental Assisting Program, IYT established the LIBERTY Dental Health Champions of Tomorrow Scholarship program to support the completion of study for Associate Degree and/or certification programs in the field of dentistry. Specifically targeted towards African American young men entering the Dental Assisting and/or Dental Hygiene Career Education (CE) Programs at Los Rios’s Sacramento City College Campus, this program helps to address barriers to students’ post-secondary education completion by providing financial assistance, ongoing learning opportunities, academic support and by matching students with mentors from within the dental profession. Building on the successful IYT Community College (IYT CC) program, recipients of this scholarship will become part of a larger network of young men of color supporting one another toward completion of their post-secondary education goals.
Goals and Objectives
The IYT-LIBERTY Dental Scholarship Program seeks to increase the number of local African American young men entering careers in dentistry, by supporting a cohort of college freshmen in completing Dental Assisting or Dental Hygiene Certification Programs.
